Destination Weddings - Choosing the perfect Wedding Dress for your big day

by Tina Waller ( News )

Destination Weddings

You’ve decided on a beach wedding and now It’s time to think about what style of wedding dress that’s suitable for saying `I do` on the sand.

You’ll need a dress that you’ll feel comfortable in, and one that will fit the laidback holiday vibe of a wedding by the sea.

Tina Waller is a wedding dress designer based in Maidenhead, Berkshire and in this article, she tells her hidden secrets on what to look out for when choosing your beach wedding dress. While there is a no one-size-fits-all solution to beach wedding dresses, there are a few important factors to keep in mind.

Whatever the style, make sure you choose something that you won't get too hot in, and that will create beautiful photos blowing in the breeze!

The best choice by far are sleeveless designs but if you’d rather keep your shoulders covered, perhaps to protect against the sun, then a pretty capelet or flared sleeves are the next best thing.

While wedding dresses are ‘traditionally’ long, don’t rule out a shorter dress. You might not consider wearing a shorter style if you were getting married in the UK, but a tea-length or cocktail style can be the perfect choice for a beach ceremony. You will be so much cooler, will be able to show off your tanned legs and are in no danger of getting your train ruined by sand or sea water!

So many brides to be when thinking about their destination wedding dress often think plain and simple. Who doesn’t love a little sparkle in the sunlight? Don’t be afraid to include crystal or pearl detail to your dress. Want the best of both? why not opt for a glittering bodice or a design with a beaded belt and leave the skirt plain and flowing.

When it comes to shoes, you might want to go for flat wedding shoes instead of heels if you’re getting married on the beach.

Wedding Dress Fabric

Choose light, natural fabrics that will breathe – the last thing you need is to be sweaty in your wedding photos! Chiffon, charmeuse, organza and georgette are all wise choices. Although a ‘real’ silk dress might seem like a good option, it could cling in the heat. It’s also likely to wrinkle while travelling, so have a plan in place to straighten things up when you arrive.

Wedding Hair

It might be a good idea to wear your hair in an ‘up do’, if the venue is prone to sea breezes, long flowing tresses could be whipped up into a frenzy! This may also influence your decision on whether to have a Veil or not. Think of something pretty and sparkling in your hair to twinkle in the sun light or maybe some tropical fresh flowers………..Gorgeous!

These guidelines are just a start when it comes to choosing a beach wedding dress that works for your wedding and personal style.
